  • Types of container ships, Ship’s Equipment, GA & Deadweight plans,
  • Types of shipping containers, bulky cargoes on special containers, heavy lifts, special cargo such as boats & yachts, etc.

IV. Ship – shore communication (by email).

  • Pre-arrival information from ship – schedules, tank conditions (arr/dep), stowplans, DG list, reefer boxes, special remarks about cargo, etc.
  • Pre-arrival information to ship – required updates on ETA, berth availability, expected tides & side alongside, number of shore / ship’s cranes / gangs working, load /discharge plan, special instructions for handling special cargo, DG / reefer.

V. On arrival discussions on board (after port formalities handle by ship’s agents).

  • Terminal safety & essential services check-lists / contact information.
  • Ship’s arrival condition and estimated departure condition (deviation from previous ?)
  • Planner / Chief Mate discussions
  • On discharge & loading plans
  • Tentative stowage plan and stability condition (last minute boxes ?)
  • Dangerous Goods list – safety precaution, handling & stowage
  • Reefer containers list – temperature records,
  • Awkward cargo list – safety precaution, stowage preparation, special lashings,
  • Special cargo list – documentation, manufacturer’s instructions on handling & stowage, markings, spill handling, personnel safety in case of damage / spill

VI. During cargo operation at terminal.

  • Spot checks on board (code of safe working practices), discussions with ship’s duty officer if any breaches found.
  • Discussions /Update with ship’s duty officer on estimated departure time & tide permitting, estimated departure draft etc, to prepare vessel early, to ensure minimum delay & no nasty surprises.

VII. On completion cargo operation.

  • Discussion on final stowage plan & stability condition.
  • Finalised DG, reefer, Special cargo list etc & cargo manifest.
  • Discussion on Letters of protest from and to ship, if any.
  • Discussion on stevedore’s damage report, if any.
  • Discussion on ship’s departure condition.
